It looks like Southeast Texas is in for a little legal star power. The lawyer that represented Andrea Yates, the Houston woman found not guilty by reason of insanity in the drowning deaths of her five children, will be working for Joshua Allen Jr.
George Parnham, the Houston lawyer who worked on a national stage during the Yates trial, has agreed to represent Allen -- the Beaumont man who is accused of murdering his wife, Martha, at their West End home before turning the gun on himself.
Allen, who will remain hospitalized for another six weeks or so, has yet to meet with Parnham. Does this mean an insanity plea is in the works? If so, Parnham won't divulge. He says he has not decided on the kind of defense -- insanity or otherwise -- he will argue for Allen.
One thing seems fairly certain: this case has the potential to be on par with one of those Dateline NBC murder specials. The kind of domestic disputes that TV news programs love to air on a ratings challenged Friday night.
Let's hope perspective is maintained. A mom was lost. And the children -- and there are kids involved here -- will hopefully remain outside the media's glare.
Lights, camera...stay tuned.

Too bad Johnny Cochran is not alive. It the glove fits you must aquit. God help us!!!
I don't see why this case can't be covered like any other.
Lemme see here. The guy pops his wife at point blank range and kills her dead. Then, he turns the gun around and shoots himself in the face and he lives? You don't have to be Fellini to figure this one out. It's called murder. Got it?
The lawyer could argue justifiable homicide. Maybe she over seasoned a roast, or did not perform her wifely duties in a satisfactory way, the list goes on and on.
I just wonder how he can succeed in killing his wife, but fail in killing himself. what an idiot!
Josh Allen needs to accept responsibility for his actions. He shot himself in the face so his chances for finding a date in the future are slim. No excuse for murdering your wife like this, but you can bet he is looking for one with George Parnham. Disgusting.
I hope this man is guilty as sin, since he hired George Parnham. Hiring George means, he will be found guilty even if he is not. Hiring George means that George will do little about defending the defendant , because he if too busy doing TV interviews to reap more publicity for himself so that future saps will hire him.
He LIVES on publicity, he LIVES off of the publicity he is STILL getting from the Yates case. He is the worst lawyer you could hire.
So I hope the man deserves George Parnham, I hope he deserves to be sent to prison - because that is where is he going - innocent, insane, or just plain guilty.
doesn't anyone notice ? GEORGE PARNHAM loses !!!
He always does, He doesn't care.
