From the Bayou department of "names, surnames and bad names" we have this little anecdote (thanks Charles!).
* * * *
A school teacher from Livingston Parish, Louisiana sent this out.
This is a child's name : Le - a
How would you pronounce this as a child's name?
Leah? NO
Lee - A? NOPE
Lay - a? NO
Lei? Guess Again.
Are you resorting to tongue clicks yet?
It's pronounced "Ledasha" . The dash is not silent.

An "A" for creativity, an "F" for the teasing that this poor child is going to have to endure.
IT'S SATURDAY. DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR 5 THINGS ARE?
- Two idiot radio jocks have made the assertion that basketball great, Magic Johnson, has been faking AIDS. Pretending to have a cold to play hooky from work is one thing, faking AIDS -- for years -- is quite another.

15 Gator-baiters:
These are actual names of kids in Port Arthur. I agree with Bill Cosby: “Parents, give your kids a name people can pronounce.”
Exactly, where they get these names is unknown. These are only a few that I remember.
Lemonjello = Luh – mon - juh – low (twins)
Orangejello = Uh - rahn – juh - low
Shithead = Shuh - the – ud (…a cute little 6th grade girl)

Gator, you're just jealous that we don't have good radio any more in the triangle. Other than Ronnie Linden's non-stop boreathon on KOLE, what else do you have on AM? Just the snoozer generation on KLVI, interspersed with syndicated right wing wackos. And FM?
Baker was very entertaining when he was on KTRH a few years back. I'm not sure the wusses in Minnesota are ready for him.
As for the name game, I've heard worse. Some people should be having kids and stigmatizing them with these awful names.
S.: True. How did you guess? The state of the once proud medium is sad. We've got an idea, what about "Bayou Radio?" It has a nice ring to it, don't you agree? You could always be a guest...
Speaking of good AM radio...
I recently returned from Utah. As I was travelling through the Four-Corners area (Monument Valley), I happened upon this great radio station operated by the Ute Indians.
"And now, Chief Fallen Feathers will perform on his drum a tribal Ute rain dance of our ancestors."
Then, this Indian banged on a drum and chanted gibberish for a full 15 minutes. I’m certain the performance was highly significant to Indians, and I am not trying to be disrespectful.
At the time, I had a choice between Rush Limbaugh and Chief Ringo Starr hammering away.
The Chief was far more entertaining.
A friend of mine in La. collected names. The best was:
NOSMOKING (Nosmo-King). The mother said
she had a vision in the hospital....
KOLE? Are they back? Have to check out rev. Linden confusing a sound booth with a pulpit, he just takes so loooong to get anywhere....
I have taught several girls named Precious and all of them were absolute hell-raisers -- got in fights constantly, cussed like sailors. . . they definitely did not live up to their name.
We had one girl in BISD name Formica and another was named Clahmidia (yes, like the venereal disease). Also had a young man with the first name of Mister and another name Jacobey, but the mother insisted that it was pronounced Jacob. The longest student's name that I can recall was La'Quintainia D'Kinaishia (that's only her first and middle name), and yes, we had to say the whole thing when calling on her.
Many of the names spoken have been ripped off from Shirley Q. Go to www.shirleyqliquor.com and you can see for yourself. Not that Shirley Q. would probably take offense to being copied, but the least you can do is try to be a little more creative. Oh, and I believe there was an apostrophe in Shithead, as in Shi'thead.
Blacks should realize that by naming their kids these "african hybrid-ghetto" names they are dooming their kids to acceptance in the ghetto only. The world laughs behind the ignorance and it prevents them from being taken seriously. Don't you realize that the "man" takes these applications and tosses them into the trash before the poor kid/adult get a chance to interview;maybe thats what the parents want. Another generation of welfare and a solid democrat. Black America, the money is about to run out;then what?
Unmotivated Libertarian has just shed light on the origin of those ghetto names.
I often wondered exactly where the parents got them.
Unmotivated Lib:
Shithead by any name is still Shithead.
The aspostrophe is only an attempt to dignify a horrible joke on a little child.
Let 'um keep naming their kids these ghetto names. It insures they will stay in the ghetto where they belong.
wow this board makes southeast texas seem very racist. Or does it expose how we really are. then we wonder why national media targets this area for being racist. This is why read these comments!
I know you are going to want to delete this but it is the truth.
Leave it to the black community to come up with some sort of abomination for naming children. First, they are more likely to have a child out of wedlock. Second, they collect more welfare than any other race. Third, they don't take care of them so they end up on the street selling crack and pointing guns at people.
Tell me that this is not the truth and then you can feel justified in removing my post Gator.
Pull the stats from the Texas Department of Health's Vital Statistics. More blacks have illegitimate children. More blacks are on welfare. More blacks use drugs. More blacks are in prison. More blacks die from violent crime and drug use.
I challenge anyone to dispute these facts.
Your statement is true.
Most intelligent people understand the problem, but no one dares to offer solutions for being branded a racist, or viewed as one who promotes genocide (i.e., one who wants to curb illegitimacy) in the black community.
Ah yes, another topic designed to generate more racist posts ...
